| TELL DISCOVERY CHANNEL TO ARREST ED BOKS FOR ANIMAL ABUSE!
Animal Defense League - Los Angeles (ADL-LA) has just received some very disconcerting news (please read below posts). It seems that the Discovery Channel's Animal Precinct has bought the lies of Ed Boks - hook, line, and STINKER! From: Edward Muzika To: Mr Muzika: You have to do something about what's about to happen. My friend told me that Animal Planet has agreed to pay Granada Media from England for six shows that will follow the Animal Cruelty Taskforce in LA. The producer is Marie Thomas and her email address is marie.thomas@granadamedia.com. She is still in England. It's not enough to tell just her about what the taskforce did to Ron Mason and how all his cats were killed for nothing. She will try to cover everything up because she has already sold six shows to the Animal Planet and she does not want the Discovery Channel to know the taskforce and Boks are frauds. You have to tell Ron Mason's story to the people at Discovery. You have to stop this. ----- Original Message ----- From: Edward Muzika To: marjorie_kaplan@discovery.com Sent: Friday, January 11, 2008 3:23 PM Subject: Boks and ACTF Dear Ms. Kaplan, "This is a followup to our phone conversation. Everything I told you is fact verified by the Internet URLs shown below, including from Animal Services own website, the entire taped raid shown on City TV, as well as photos from the Daily News photographer who was there. In LA we have a bad-egg General Manager of Animal Services who has made little progress in saving animals lives since he came. His operations have grown so slipshod that there were over 1,155 Hayden Act violations in 2006, killing animals before the end of a four day hold. He explains away most of these as intake errors by impounding staff and others as premature releases to rescue groups of animals that would have been euthanized. However, he offers no proof. More recently, Ed Boks has been refusing multiple requests for public records regarding a raid where Animal Services (Boks) and the associated LAPD Animal Cruelty Task Force set up a Mr. Ron Mason for a bust on felony animal neglect charges PC 597(b). They assembled a huge group of 30-35 LAPD, Animal Service employees, the Animal Cruelty task Force, a City TV 35 crew, a county health inspector, and a Daily news reporter and photographer. They impounded his animals and killed over half of those they “rescued.” Boks stated they were irredeemably suffering and killed them, including all of the kittens. But taped and photos of the kittens were of healthy cats with no eye discharge or noted lethargy. Photos from the Daily News story: http://lang.dailynews.com/socal/flash/cat_slideshow/gallery.swf Mason was not Mirandized; no list of seized animals was ever given him contrary to PC 597.1; he was not told he could request a Postseizure Hearing where Animal Services would have had to present evidence to justify seizure and give Mason the location of all animals and a procedure to get them back. The remaining animals—if any—are being held as evidence animals and Boks is not revealing any information about any of them to anyone. Mason was libeled and slandered on City TV and Animal Services website, calling Mason a felon and conditions of probation will help him keep the number of his animals down. Boks said he had mental problems and needed counseling. The newspapers dutifully repeated that. City TV also showed officers making those statements. Below is Ed Boks discussion of community criticism of the raid currently on the LA Animal Services website. http://laanimalservices.org/PDF/info/rumor/ACTF%20Response%20A_1.pdf Below are photos taken by a Daily News News’ Reporter and photographer. http://lang.dailynews.com/socal/flash/cat_slideshow/gallery.swf The photo of the ornage cat, Muffin, being held in the air by his neck has horrified the animal community. He then lies about the setting which was exposed by other photos taken by the Daily News. Below and in the attached more detail letter, is the URL to watch the entire raid as photographed by CITY TV 35. We had assumed this footage was sent to you or Thomas. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_kJ9nGiVis A more detailed review of this whole case is below and was sent to the DA, Steve Cooley, the City Attorney, Rocky Delgadilla, Villaraigosa, Deputy City Attorney, Don Cocek (who refused to press misdemeanor animal neglect charges just as the DA refused felony charges) as well as the Mayor’s Chief of --Staff person, the press and all of City Council. I write this to you because this is just the tip of the iceberg regarding the LA animal community’s beef with Boks. He has been consistently lying about impound and euthanasia numbers, and dying in the shelter due to disease and fighting. This was published in a recent Daily News article and has resulted in a Councilmember, Bernard Parks, making a motion for an investigation. However, the Mason case is what has set the community off. They feel as all may be next as he is using the Animal Cruelty Task Force to intimidate the rescue community, and I might say even an animal Commissioner. He has already sent officers out to have annual inspections of their facilities when there is no such thing with regard to this person’s animal type: wildlife. By the way, there is a lot more info about a linkage between the City Attorney's Office and Bernstein's SPCALA. Deputy City Attorney Don Cocek prosecutes all of SPCALA's cases. Most convicted are required to pay restitution to SPCALA. Cocek was on the board of directors of SPCA. I have tons of further evidence on both the LAAS ACTF and the SPCALA/CA's Office." |
