THE ANIMALS ARE ASKING YOU TO COME OUT AND PROTEST
MORE THAN ONCE A YEAR!

If you're interested in signing up for animal rights protests in and around LA and are committed to coming out for them, please e-mail seeyouinthestreets@riseup.net
and put in the subject line "See You In The Streets." Include your contact number for their list serve.

We all lead hectic lives - but, if you really and truly want to abolish the root causes of abuse, torture, and killing of animals that persist in our own city, you need to be "in the streets" more than a few times per year.

In every social justice movement - from woman suffrage to civil rights - it took more than a few protests a year to change entrenched immoral and unethical cultural paradigms. It took a collective of many individuals rising up together and venturing out routinely and habitually to picket for the oppressed and disenfranchised. Demonstrating must become a priority in your life. It takes dedication, determination, and focus to address the roots of the problem rather than settling for temporary symptomatic relief. A good example is the needless and senseless slaughter that takes place right in our own six City municipal "shelters."

Tens of thousands of cats, dogs, puppies, kittens, rabbits, and wildlife are being systematically abused and killed because Mayor Villaraigosa refuses to appoint sincere and skilled individuals - along with consultants like No Kill Solutions - to revamp the cesspool that is the so called department of Los Angeles Animal Services (LAAS). Rescues have been bailing out as many animals as they can for the past fifty years, and with the corrupt system in place right now, they most likely will be doing the same thing fifty years from today. This is why another spoke in the wheel focused solely on stopping the slaughter inside our Los Angeles Death Camps, was begun in June of 2003 called www.StopTheKilling.net.

Stop The Killing campaigners concentrate all their free time on the root of the evil inside the six city slaughterhouses. Campaigners face the evil, corrupt and mismanaged shelter system, like the one here in Los Angeles, by taking the animals' grievances "to the streets" at least once a month to legally protest and agitate for true system-based change. By working on the core root of the problem, we have begun and will continue to see some real progress.

THINK GLOBALLY, ACT LOCALLY

In our very own city of Los Angeles, there exists the most horrific animal suffering, abuse, torture, and death. LA can be a beacon for other cities to follow in compassion and respect for animals. To counter the unfathomable atrocities occurring daily inside our City "shelters", inside places like the horrific UCLA primate vivisection laboratories and those atrocities carried out by companies such as HLS, why not redirect your focus toward demanding change that will obligate the sleazy politicians and officials to pay attention? Rather than write letters or protest once a year (on issues of animal cruelty that transpire thousands of miles from here like in China), why not join in campaigns that have the greatest possibility for positive change on behalf of animals right here in our own backyards?

"When they came to arrest the Jews, I did not say any thing - for I am not a Jew. When they came to arrest the communists, I did not say anything - for I am not a communist. When they came to arrest the socialists, I did not say anything - because I am not a socialist. When they cam to arrest the homosexuals, gypsies, and mentally retarded, I did not say anything - because I am none of the above. When they came to arrest me, there was no one left to speak on my behalf."

These words are truer now then ever before. Each of us must use our limited energy and resources as efficiently and effectively as possible doing actions for animals that have been proven to create change. Letters and phone calls wouldn't have enabled blacks to attend the same schools as whites, and courteous entreaties made no difference at all in securing the vote for women. It's action - not typing on a keyboard or asking politely - that effects significant change. Letters and phone calls are great if you have no other options and want to do something to help. But, if you live in a city like Los Angeles, that has several local grassroots animal rights groups, then joining them in the streets is the best action you can take to reform longstanding evil.

The animals don't want to hear your excuses; they need you to stand up and speak out - regularly and relentlessly. If it were you inside the cages, what would you want?
